Synopsis
IF IT'S IN HIS HEART... IT'S IN HIS KISS
MEET OUR HERO...
Gareth St. Clair is in a bind. His father, who detests him, is determined to beggar the St. Clair estates and ruin his inheritance. Gareth's sole bequest is an old family diary, which may or may not contain the secrets of his past... and the key to his future. The problem is—it's written in Italian, of which Gareth speaks not a word.
MEET OUR HEROINE...
All the ton agreed: there was no one quite like Hyacinth Bridgerton. She's fiendishly smart, devilishly outspoken, and according to Gareth, probably best in small doses. But there's something about her—something charming and vexing—that grabs him and won't quite let go...
MEET POOR MR. MOZART...
Or don't. But rest assured, he's spinning in his grave when Gareth and Hyacinth cross paths at the annual—and annually discordant—Smythe-Smith musicale. To Hyacinth, Gareth's every word seems a dare, and she offers to translate his diary, even though her Italian is slightly less than perfect. But as they delve into the mysterious text, they discover that the answers they seek lie not in the diary, but in each other... and that there is nothing as simple—or as complicated—as a single, perfect kiss.
“Miss Bridgerton,” he said, “the devil himself couldn’t scare you.”
― Julia Quinn, It's in His Kiss
Review
I didn't know what to expect from this book at first, after the disappointment of When he was wicked. But, without the slightest doubt, I loved this book. Not only is the story entertaining and full of romance, I also laughed at what was happening and fell in love with the characters. In addition to that it has a touch of mystery and adventure that the previous books did not have.
Hyacinth, the smallest of the Bridgertons, is without a doubt one of my favorite characters. She is charismatic, cheerful, eccentric and most of all she has great self-confidence. Her sense of humor, although a little sour, I loved. As well as her lively and bold personality. I loved her too much.
Gareth on the other hand, is smart, flirtatious, charismatic and is not at all afraid of Hyacinth's audacity and scathing words. He is undoubtedly a character with a big heart, who wants to do the right thing and who has suffered too much because of his father, and even so, he has struggled to keep going with his life.
Both Gareth and Hyacinth are, from my perspective, round characters. Since we get to know those defects that they have from the beginning of the book, which makes us sympathize with them more from the beginning.
Both are a cute couple, their compatibility is surprising since both in many ways complement each other in a great way. The development they present is from friends to something else and to being a formal couple, which I love, (you know I don't like instalove). Best of all, Gareth knows what he's getting into from the start before proposing to Hyacinth.
“‘It’s in his kiss,’ her mother whispered. ‘It’s all there, in his kiss.’”
― Julia Quinn, It's in His Kiss
And finally, we have a male protagonist who asks Anthony Bridgerton for his sister's hand! (Without anything unseemly happening before this, of course) It is also a couple who do not force them to marry for indiscreet reasons ... 👀 So I couldn’t stop fangirling, because it had never happened in any book in the saga of the Bridgerton brothers.
I loved Lady Danbury and her sense of humor, I loved getting to know more about her family and her private life. Her relationship with Hyacinth and Gareth is just beautiful.
In this book Julia Quinn surprises us with a new way of telling us this story, because if we previously had the Lady Whistledown texts or letters that were written by the characters before, during or after the story; In this book, Julia Quinn tells the story as a fairy tale. A simple and straightforward narrative, but one that fits too well with this book.
As I mentioned before, It’s in His Kiss has adventure and mystery, as we find ourselves in the middle of a treasure hunt, following the clues of Gareth's grandmother's diary. Despite this mystery taking a backseat, it's fascinating to read the characters trying to find this treasure.
Although I can't say that I loved the epilogue, I certainly loved this story from start to finish. I couldn't get away from her from the start (even though I had my doubts with Hyacinth). I devoured it in just two days!
I devoured this book in two days, Dreamers, so it was not easy for me to find the inner plot of this book, which the characters must overcome.
The Duke and I: Love, or, meet the right person to love and be loved.
The Viscount Who Loved: The fear / fears, or, the fear of our own nightmares or fears.
Romancing Mr Bridgerton: The dreams or goals that one wants to fulfill.
To Sir Phillip, with love: Loneliness.
When he was wicked: Letting go of what is no longer and accepting a new beginning.
It’s in His Kiss: Accept and love people by the way they are.
Final Opinion
I devoured this book from the moment I started reading it. I couldn't stop with Hyacinth's alluring and sarcastic personality, and the chemistry she had with the mysterious Gareth. I just wanted to know more about both of them and the secret that Gareth's grandmother was hiding in the pages of her diary.
The couple that they both form is simply beautiful and adorable, they are both intelligent and complement each other in a great way. I couldn't stop fangirling throughout the book, and even though Gareth at times did make me desperate for his actions, I couldn't help but love him for trying to do the right thing half the time.
