Synopsis

Will she accept his offer before the clock strikes midnight?

Sophie Beckett never dreamed she'd be able to sneak into Lady Bridgerton's famed masquerade ball—or that "Prince Charming" would be waiting there for her! Though the daughter of an earl, Sophie has been relegated to the role of servant by her disdainful stepmother. But now, spinning in the strong arms of the debonair and devastatingly handsome Benedict Bridgerton, she feels like royalty. Alas, she knows all enchantments must end when the clock strikes midnight.

Who was that extraordinary woman? Ever since that magical night, a radiant vision in silver has blinded Benedict to the attractions of any other—except, perhaps this alluring and oddly familiar beauty dressed in housemaid's garb whom he feels compelled to rescue from a most disagreeable situation. He has sworn to find and wed his mystery miss, but this breathtaking maid makes him weak with wanting her. Yet, if he offers his heart, will Benedict sacrifice his only chance for a fairy tale love?

"And it turned out that they were one and the same"

Review

Before I started reading this book, I was very unsure if I should read it or not, since well, it is a remake of Cinderella, but I wanted to have all the books in the Bridgerton saga. So I bought it, and boy did not I regret it. I loved the book!

It is true that this story has many characteristics of the Cinderella tale: a girl from a noble family who is treated as a servant by her stepmother, with two stepsisters and a handsome and rich boy who falls in love with the girl at first sight. But, in my opinion, these points remain in the background while we get to know Sophie more.

She has enormous willpower, she is strong and independent, and she has that courage to get ahead and overcome any challenge that life throws at her. Despite the fact that I despair at times with her actions, I have no doubt that I was amazed by this character, both innocent and fearless.

I liked Benedict Bridgerton as a character, as he is not as womanizer and stereotypical macho man as several of the men we have met in Julia Quinn books. Benedict has a sensitive and artistic side to him, even though Julia Quinn was somewhat superficial with him on some issues, I can say that he is a round character.

"The woman was able to make his heart sing with a simple smile ..."

-An offer from a gentleman, Julia Quinn

The romance that develops between Benedict and Sophie is undoubtedly a bittersweet story, with many feelings and "social rules" involved. A couple with great chemistry and a great sense of humor. It was without a doubt a couple that I loved.

Although the plot of the story is not much of a surprise, because you already know - Cinderella story remake -, I certainly loved the way Julia Quinn developed it, even adding a hint of fun humor.

I can safely say that in this book, Violet Brodgerton was my favorite character!

As I have told you, each story of this saga has an internal plot that develops without us noticing in the external plot. And as in the first two books of this saga, I will mention the plot of this book.

  • The Duke and I: Love, or, meet the right person to love and be loved.

  • The Viscount Who Loved Me: The fear / fears, or, the fear of our own nightmares or fears.

  • An offer from a gentleman: Fight for the desires of your heart

*Of course, (if you already know my blog), there are already other reviews of the following books in this saga published, so if you want to know the other internal plots, I recommend you go read the last review of this saga published.

Final Opinion

An offer from a gentleman, is a bittersweet story, full of the good humor of laughter between its pages. Where his characters and the couple stole my heart.

Although it is almost a typical Cinderella story, I recommend that you read it if you have already started reading the Bridgerton siblings saga. You will not regret it, Dreamers.
