Synopsis
In the ballrooms and drawing rooms of Regency London, rules abound. From their earliest days, children of aristocrats learn how to address an earl and curtsey before a prince—while other dictates of the ton are unspoken yet universally understood. A proper duke should be imperious and aloof. A young, marriageable lady should be amiable… but not too amiable.
Daphne Bridgerton has always failed at the latter. The fourth of eight siblings in her close-knit family, she has formed friendships with the most eligible young men in London. Everyone likes Daphne for her kindness and wit. But no one truly desires her. She is simply too deuced honest for that, too unwilling to play the romantic games that captivate gentlemen.
Amiability is not a characteristic shared by Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings. Recently returned to England from abroad, he intends to shun both marriage and society—just as his callous father shunned Simon throughout his painful childhood. Yet an encounter with his best friend’s sister offers another option. If Daphne agrees to a fake courtship, Simon can deter the mamas who parade their daughters before him. Daphne, meanwhile, will see her prospects and her reputation soar.
The plan works like a charm—at first. But amid the glittering, gossipy, cut-throat world of London’s elite, there is only one certainty: love ignores every rule…

Opinion
Discussing with my sister the opinions of this book, she has concluded that this book is more like a fanfic.

And don't get it wrong Dreamers, Julia Quinn's writing is light and fluid, allowing us to get to know all this culture and people's lives during the regency era. Immersing ourselves in the dances, tea dates, walks in the parks, farms, and GOSSIP of London high society. While Lady Whistledown, and the beliefs of this time, make this story juicy.
In each chapter a note from Lady Whistledown gives us a preview or a count of the chapters, which leaves us with the intrigue and excitement of wanting to continue reading.
I can't say that I totally loved the characters in this book, but you certainly cherish them.
Daphne, who is not the most beautiful of ladies in society, but who is a good match for her last name, Bridgerton, has rejected two suitors because she seeks love in her marriage. This protagonist is very nice, a romantic and strong girl on her own account, because with seven siblings, she had to learn not to be bossed around.
Whereas Simon, he is a man with a complicated childhood and a fatal flaw. I stutter from him. However, he is a strong-willed, stubborn and proud man, and he does not let anyone know of this great flaw. However, he does not want to get married. NEVER.
"-Mrs. Bridgerton, did you know that you are a most impertinent creature?"
-The Duke and I, Julia Quinn
I loved the way in which Julia Quinn developed the story of this couple, because despite the fact that there is attraction between them from the first moment, or what many would call "love at first sight", they did not go on to courtship right away, no. They both developed a friendship that allowed them to get to know each other. Even if it was only a few weeks ...
Also, this story surprised me too much because of some risque chapters, which I definitely did not expect when I started reading it. And if you have already seen the series, a somewhat controversial scene ...
However, there was a point that I did not like, and that is that I would have liked to know more about the Bridgertons while reading, but, the story only focuses on Dafre and Simon. Which disappointed me.
Final conclusion.
It is a short and light, romantic book to immerse you in the world of the regency. Ideal to start reading a new saga of historical romance and not being able to stop reading all the books.
