Sypnosis

Clary Fray just wishes that her life would go back to normal. But what's normal when you're a demon-slaying Shadowhunter, your mother is in a magically induced coma, and you can suddenly see Downworlders like werewolves, vampires, and faeries? If Clary left the world of the Shadowhunters behind, it would mean more time with her best friend, Simon, who's becoming more than a friend. But the Shadowhunting world isn't ready to let her go — especially her handsome, infuriating, newfound brother, Jace. And Clary's only chance to help her mother is to track down rogue Shadowhunter Valentine, who is probably insane, certainly evil — and also her father.

To complicate matters, someone in New York City is murdering Downworlder children. Is Valentine behind the killings — and if he is, what is he trying to do? When the second of the Mortal Instruments, the Soul-Sword, is stolen, the terrifying Inquisitor arrives to investigate and zooms right in on Jace. How can Clary stop Valentine if Jace is willing to betray everything he believes in to help their father?

Summary

This book is the second part The Mortal Instruments saga, the first book is City of Bones. This book continue the story of Clary and Jace, who recently found out they are siblings. Things turn out to be a little bit more uncomfortable they ever thought, but a series of murders gives them clues about the place Valentine is hiding.

At the beginning of the book I was hoping to read more about the relationship Jocelyn and Jace would have if she ever woke up, for my disappointment this didn't happen. But, this book show us the more vulnerable side of Jace, who feel more lonely than ever. His adoptive family give him the back when he more needed, and the only person he seems to thrust is his father, Valentine.

I always though family and blood relationships are harder than any other relationship, but, in this saga the situation is really bad. I mean, ¿ a father who pretends his dead and wants his son back after ten years? ¿ A mother who hides a world with magic? Sometimes people take decisions to protect other, but, sometimes people choose wrong.

<<An expression of anger crossed Valentine's face, as if the sound of her daughter's name in the mouth of a vampire will upset him.>>

I really like to talk more about Clary and Jace, and their recent habilitis they develop in this books, nevertheless the star of this book is Valentine. At least that is my point of view. I really loved his personality and the how stubborn he is. I mean, ¡join your enemies to save the world, even if you really hate them! That must be really difficult, specially for the man who gave his best friend a knife to kill himself just for being a werewolf. Valentine is intelligent, clever and evil, he would sacrifice everything he loves to achieve his goals. The perfect villain.

If you liked City of Bones, you would love City of Ashes dreamers!
