Synopsis

Alec Lightwood, partner of the High Warlock of Brooklyn and father of a warlock child, is sent to Buenos Aires to re-establish the Shadowhunters amidst the ruins left by the Dark War. When he arrives, he is not welcomed by the Shadowhunters there. He believes it is because of his companion Lily, the head of the New York vampire clan, until a Shadowhunter orphan confides a dark secret to him under cover of the Shadow Market.

“Anyone who says women are weak is afraid they’re too strong.”

Review

Alec Lightwood is the only shadowhunter who can enter the downworlders market in Buenos Aires, or at least that's what says the letter Jem and Tessa send him. Now, he has to travel to Argentina, to discover the reason why the downworlders hide behind the walls of the market and its queen.

History

The Land I Lost is a very short story, and in a sense, I have the feeling that it seems like a fanfic, if it were not for this book being related to the whole saga that Cassandra Clare has created. A book that is really easy and fast to read.

A story that begins to be interesting once Alec and Lily arrived in Buenos Aires, where they begin to read more about the new characters that are presented in this saga, and more stories that relate to the characters that Cassandra Clare has created. And, at the same time, a predictable story.

“My true love has my heart, and I have his. Never was a fairer bargain made.”

Cassandra Clare, The Land I Lost

Characters

The reason I read this book is because of Alec and Rafael, who are constant characters in Cassandra's books after the war with Sebastian Morgenstern. Rafael, being a reserved and shy child, and Alec, being Alec.

Their relationship is very cute and tender, a really predictable relationship and a huge barrier like language (Alec doesn't know Spanish and Rafael doesn't speak English).

Lily, on the other hand, is the soul of this book, although the atmosphere seems to be somewhat dark as more and more we enter the saga, Lily is that ray of sunlight that illuminates a chapter.

Of course we have enigmatic characters, with great stories to tell that take us deeper into the world that Cassandra created and many of us are more believers.

The end.

From the start, the authors of this book begin to give clues as to who is involved, and the end of this book is not a surprise. Being a short story, everything will unfold quickly, even if I wished it would go deeper.

Final Thoughts.

A book that I would read if I am between very heavy readings, since the story is short and very simple, it is very predictable, but I cannot stop been a fangirl (by Alec and Rafael).
