After the Magister escaped from the Shadowhunters of the London Institute, they will have to face the Inquisitor to recount the facts. They just have a huge problem, and it's called Benedict Lightwood.
This shadowhunter does not support the fact that Charlotte led the institute, since he belives this should be his. Therefore he challenges them, they only have two weeks to find the Magister's whereabouts, before he can take his place as the new director of the institute.
Tessa, Jem, Will, Henry and Charlotte are on the clock to find the magister. Their trip will take them to reveal secrets and lies of some of their loved ones.

"The lies and secrets, Tessa, are like cancer, they end up with the good and only leave destruction in their wake."
-Clockwork Prince, Cassandra Clare
This book in comparison with the previous one (Clockwork Angel), does not have many scenes of action, since it is centered in investigating on the whereabouts of the Magister, and he, seems to be always a step further on. Although, of course, there are always flaws in the plans. nothing is perfect, right?
Also, we got to know more about Will, who always kept his true personality hidden through hurtful words and lies. In Clockwork Angel, the author reveals that Will needs the help of Magnus Bane due to a curse, so in this continuation, we finally get to know the demon that applied the curse and why, also, what was the same. Also, the past of Will Herondale.
Cassandra narrates from the perspective of Will several of the chapters that happen in this book. therefore, we know his true feelings towards Tessa and Jem, who have become close due to the distancing that Will present. So several questions arise, what does Will feel for Tessa? Does Tessa still feel the same as Will?
In this book the true friends and enemies come to light, when a secret with a horrible lie come to light. A play can save everything that the members of the Institute can lose. Will they use that letter in their favor, even if it means giving up what they once loved?
No doubt, Prince Mechanic, is a quiet book, with more mystery than the previous one, and that his last pages I could not take off from him.
