-The Son of Neptune, Rick Riordan

Synopsis

Percy is confused. When he awoke from his long sleep, he didn't know much more than his name. His brain fuzz is lingering, even after the wolf Lupa told him he is a demigod and trained him to fight with the pen/sword in his pocket. Somehow Percy manages to make it to a camp for half-bloods, despite the fact that he has to keep killing monsters along the way. But the camp doesn't ring any bells with him. The only thing he can recall from his past is another name: Annabeth.

Hazel is supposed to be dead. When she lived before, she didn't do a very good job of it. Sure, she was an obedient daughter, even when her mother was possessed by greed. But that was the problem—when the Voice took over her mother and commanded Hazel to use her "gift" for an evil purpose, Hazel couldn't say no. Now because of her mistake, the future of the world is at risk. Hazel wishes she could ride away from it all on the stallion that appears in her dreams.

Frank is a klutz. His grandmother says he is descended from heroes and can be anything he wants to be, but he doesn't see it. He doesn't even know who his father is. He keeps hoping Apollo will claim him, because the only thing he is good at is archery—although not good enough to win camp war games. His bulky physique makes him feel like an ox, especially in front of Hazel, his closest friend at camp. He trusts her completely—enough to share the secret he holds close to his heart.

Beginning at the "other" camp for half-bloods and extending as far as the land beyond the gods, this breathtaking second installment of the Heroes of Olympus series introduces new demigods, revives fearsome monsters, and features other remarkable creatures, all destined to play a part in the Prophecy of Seven

Percy has been running for his life for weeks, monsters do not disintegrate, they re-form seconds after they're dead, and he knows that's wrong. But that is not the worst of all. Percy, he remembers nothing more than a name, Annabeth. And he knows that to find her he has to get to the camp. But when he arrives at the camp Jupiter, he knows that it is not the camp that he is looking for.

Hazel has a secret and it has to do with the monsters reforming again. Only a son of Neptune can take away her curse, and when one appears charging a goddess she thinks it's fate. But, Percy is confused and is always relating everything Roman with Greek, he also seems to know more than it appears.

Frank was always told he is very powerful, descends from Greeks, Romans, Chinese and with a gift that nobody else has. In addition to a dangerous secret that can end up his life. When Percy Jackson saves him from the sisters of Medusa, he knows that the demigod is powerful, immediately sees him as a hero, as a role model.

The Romans know that something very bad is happening when two gods appear in the camp in a single day. First, Juno, announcing the arrival of a new warrior, Percy Jackson, son of Neptune. And then, Mars, announcing a quest that will lead his own son, to look for Thanatos, god of death.

-The Son of Neptune, Rick Riordan

This is the second book of The Heroes of Olympus, where Rick Riordan tells us what happened with Percy Jackson, after Hera kidnapped him in the middle of the night and exchanged him with Jason. The story is more complete than the previous saga, this time they face the very goddess of the earth, Gaea, and all her children. There are new dangers, new monsters, new gods, new characters from Greek and Roman mythology.

This book is full of action, uncertainty, secrets and friendship, because, although I liked The Lost Hero, Percy achieves something that Jason does not, to form bonds of friendship with the people around him, inspiring confidence and loyalty. And although Jason also wanted to recover his memory, Percy desires it desperately, because his anchor to his old life was a single name that meant everything and nothing at the same time.

The Son of Neptune, being located in the Roman camp, gives us another perspective of the gods and Roman culture. Although it is very similar to Greek mythology, both mythologies and cultures are very different from one another, this can be noticed when reading this book. The Romans are more strict and their gods are warriors, not only that, it is not only a camp, it is also a city. There are not only demigod adolescents, there are also descendants of them, children and adults. All in one place.

At the same time, they also tell us what happened to the Greeks once the Roman Empire became strong and powerful. This gives us a new perspective of why the two camps do not live together, they also tell us about the rumors that there are about Greek demigods and threaten they represent. And not only that, also, Rick Riordan tells us that there are places where the gods do not govern, wild lands, lands where the gods have no power.

I loved this book, not only because Percy is my favorite literary character, but because we got to know the last three demigods of the Prophecy of Seven, and all that they have to fight to be the demigods that fight against or in favor of Gaea. It is a book with a lot of action, adventures, and in a certain way educational.

If you like mythology, Dreamers, then you can not stop reading this book.
