<<Boys. I’m sure you both would’ve been wonderful at killing each other.>>

-The Mark of Athena, Rick Riordan

Synopsis

Annabeth is terrified. Just when she's about to be reunited with Percy—after six months of being apart, thanks to Hera—it looks like Camp Jupiter is preparing for war. As Annabeth and her friends Jason, Piper, and Leo fly in on the Argo II, she can't blame the Roman demigods for thinking the ship is a Greek weapon. With its steaming bronze dragon figurehead, Leo's fantastical creation doesn't appear friendly. Annabeth hopes that the sight of their praetor Jason on deck will reassure the Romans that the visitors from Camp Half-Blood are coming in peace.

And that's only one of her worries. In her pocket, Annabeth carries a gift from her mother that came with an unnerving command: Follow the Mark of Athena. Avenge me. Annabeth already feels weighed down by the prophecy that will send seven demigods on a quest to find—and close—the Doors of Death. What more does Athena want from her?

Annabeth's biggest fear, though, is that Percy might have changed. What if he's now attached to Roman ways? Does he still need his old friends? As the daughter of the goddess of war and wisdom, Annabeth knows she was born to be a leader—but never again does she want to be without Seaweed Brain by her side

<<Wisdom daughter walks alone,

The Mark of Athena burns through Rome,

Twins snuff out the angel’s breath,

Who holds the key to endless death.

Gigants’ bane stands gold and pale,

Won through pain from a woven jail.>>

-The Mark of Athena, Rick Riordan

This book has a great meaning for Annabeth, who, finally after so many years, we got to read from her perspective. Not just because she has a prophecy for herself. Rather, for its fundamental role in history. All starting with the important mission to which her mother sends. She is not just another blonde and silly girl as much as they believe when she sees her, she is intelligent and she knows it, after all, she is the daughter of wisdom and loves to show it to the world. But, she does not have any power like Percy or Jason, will that stop her from completing her mission?

That Rick Riordan had given her such an important role, demonstrates in my point of view, that Annabeth is not a character with little relevance as many on the fandom thinks, she is not only Percy's girlfriend. Annabeth is a woman who can achieve all that is proposed, a woman who has a mission to prevent the war between the Greeks and Romans.

In this book we read how is the relationship between the seven demigods of the prophecy, which Hera personally chose. Is there a love triangle between Frank, Hazel and Leo? Will Percy and Jason fight for the group's leadership? What is the relationship between Hazel and Leo? All these questions arise when there is a group of strong demigods, especially when there are two children of the big three (who are always fighting), two leaders.

We got to know, in that book, new monsters and gods, who had been mentioned in the previous books, but who had not had any interaction with the characters. In the same way, we know the Roman form of some of the Greek gods in that book, so, we come to see why the gods isolate themselves within Olympus.

Although this book is very entertaining, it becomes a bit heavy due to the amount of events that happen on its pages, in addition to the amount of information that the characters release so that the protagonists can reach Rome and thus fulfill their destiny.

New adventures, new monsters, new schools, ancient gods, new continent, a new journey and a great escape through the United States is what happens in this book. A book that without a doubt is full of intrigue and mysteries, as well as friendship and adventure.

If you like fantasy and mythology books, without a doubt, the Marca de Athena is a book you can not miss, Dreamers.
