Synopsis

This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do. This afternoon, her planet was invaded.

The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than a speck at the edge of the universe. Now with enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra—who are barely even talking to each other—are forced to evacuate with a hostile warship in hot pursuit.

But their problems are just getting started. A plague has broken out and is mutating with terrifying results; the fleet’s AI may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into a web of data to find the truth, it’s clear the only person who can help her is the ex-boyfriend she swore she’d never speak to again.

Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents—including emails, maps, files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more—Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.

Opinion

This book is totally different from what I usually read. Not because it is science fiction, rather because of the way it is written. Not your typical third-person or first-person narration, this book is literally the archives of what happened in the middle of a war in which the characters in this story were involved. And despite the fact that it is a thick book, the fact that they are files, the chapters are concise and quick to read, which really does not make you feel the thickness of the pages.

And this factor, fact, was what kept me between its pages.

From the beginning the authors trap you in the story, because everything starts quickly and everything turns into chaos very soon, besides that everything has already happened, then you want to know how it ended, if they managed to get out alive and who is behind EVERYTHING what happens in the book. That's what really keeps you between the pages.

The history

The story is something that really attracts you, because from the beginning you want to know the fate of the protagonists who really have absolutely nothing to do with these large corporations, in fact they are only civilians from a small planet.

And suddenly something that is small becomes big, that changes everything.

The story is really very dynamic because there are parts of all the characters involved and who are not involved, so they are narratives in file forms that are in the first person or in the third person.

Not only is this war between corporations, we are also talking about a disease. One that I can not stop comparing with another saga that is very popular throughout the book.

But, there were plot twists that surprised me a lot and that I really liked.

Characters.

There are several characters that participate in this story, but the most outstanding are Kady and Ezra.

Kady is actually a very impulsive and rebellious teenager, so the whole book really revolves around her actions and their consequences. A stubborn character who gets carried away by her emotions, which I really did not like, and I despaired when I read it.

Ezra, Kady's ex-boyfriend is a calmer character than Kady. He is a character with a lot of morals and a greater respect for the authorities than Kady. He is a more realistic character than Kady himself.

Conclusions.

The story and the way of narration was what I liked about this book, as it makes it dynamic and different from most books, without being boring or tedious. But, I feel like the authors lacked being more realistic with their characters, especially with Kady.

Although they are archives and we do not read the feelings of the characters as such, the authors really managed to make them known in the narration, and that is an extra point in my rating.
