Sinopsis

Magnus Chase has always been a troubled kid. Since his mother’s mysterious death, he’s lived alone on the streets of Boston, surviving by his wits, keeping one step ahead of the police and the truant officers.

One day, he’s tracked down by an uncle he barely knows—a man his mother claimed was dangerous. Uncle Randolph tells him an impossible secret: Magnus is the son of a Norse god.

The Viking myths are true. The gods of Asgard are preparing for war. Trolls, giants and worse monsters are stirring for doomsday. To prevent Ragnarok, Magnus must search the Nine Worlds for a weapon that has been lost for thousands of years.

When an attack by fire giants forces him to choose between his own safety and the lives of hundreds of innocents, Magnus makes a fatal decision.

Sometimes, the only way to start a new life is to die . . .

-The Sword of Summer, Rick Riordan.

A book that I love since the first page I read, Magnus and his hilarious sense of humor attract me from the beginning. He is a character, that has gone through a lot, since the dead of his mother. He has been living on the streets of Boston, and has learn to trust no one. He’s a sarcastic character that makes you laugh through everything that happens on this book, but, that is just a way he uses to hide his suffering.

He escaped from the one who killed his mother and, has a low profile because of them. He just thinks of what is going to be his next food, or where he is going to spend his night, that, he didn’t processed all his feeling about the lost of his mom. That he is just in pain, and he doesn’t know how to express all this feelings, and uses sarcasm to hide it.

Magnus is not the only character that suffers in this book. Heart, Blitzen and Sam, have their own story. Each different one from another. The four of them freaks between their kind, that just want to reach a dream. Rick Riordan made this characters unique in their own way. He made a great job creating to each character their own personality and essence.

A book that starts with action. I mean, you know what is going on. Even Magnus is all freak out about the suddenly family reunion, the fact that he is the son of a Nordic god, that has a great legacy that is a sword, and that a gigant of fire wants that sword. Everything happens so suddenly, that you don’t expect it, You can’t stop reading this book!

And the fact that you don’t know what is going on next, makes you wanting to read more. And the titles of the chapters doesn’t help.

Before reading the book, everything I knew about nordic mythology was the gods of Marvel (Thor, Loki,...) But, in this book, ¡the gods change in a drastic way! I love the twist Rick Riordan give to the gods, suddenly, they are not perfect as Marvel movies shows them. They have their own unique personality, that can be odd. They can be gloomy or nasty.

Something, I liked about this book, is that gods are not that traditional as the Greek or Roman gods. They are so into modern world that makes you laugh, because they don’t fully understand the new technology. They are like the grandpa that wants to be a cool grandpa.

A book that will makes you laugh, a book full of adventure, a book you dive in from the beginning.
