Synopsis
There was nothing in the world as magical and terrifying as a girl.
Princess Guinevere has come to Camelot to wed a stranger: the charismatic King Arthur. With magic clawing at the kingdom's borders, the great wizard Merlin conjured a solution--send in Guinevere to be Arthur's wife . . . and his protector from those who want to see the young king's idyllic city fail. The catch? Guinevere's real name--and her true identity--is a secret. She is a changeling, a girl who has given up everything to protect Camelot.
To keep Arthur safe, Guinevere must navigate a court in which the old--including Arthur's own family--demand things continue as they have been, and the new--those drawn by the dream of Camelot--fight for a better way to live. And always, in the green hearts of forests and the black depths of lakes, magic lies in wait to reclaim the land. Arthur's knights believe they are strong enough to face any threat, but Guinevere knows it will take more than swords to keep Camelot free.
Deadly jousts, duplicitous knights, and forbidden romances are nothing compared to the greatest threat of all: the girl with the long black hair, riding on horseback through the dark woods toward Arthur. Because when your whole existence is a lie, how can you trust even yourself?

Review
Guinevere was sent by Merlín to protect Arthur, she doesn’t know of what or who.. The point is that to do it she needs one thing, magic. And magic is prohibited in Camelot.
History.
From the beginning the story absorbs you, not only for all the mystery that exists about the threat from which Guinevere must protect Arthur, but also for all the mystery that surrounds Guinevere. You know absolutely nothing about her, only the fact that she is for Arthur and possesses magic, prohibited in Camelot.
The fact that this book is based on the legend of King Arthur, appeals from the beginning. As a reader you want to know more about the world that Kiersten White has created, from the landscapes, to the clothing of the characters and the atmosphere inside the palace. Of course, how she develops this story in his book.
The more you dive into this story, the more complicated and complex it becomes, and the more it traps you between its pages.

Characters.

Despite the fact that there are several characters that intervene in the story, there are few that really have a weight in the plot. What actually makes reading easier, because you don't have to learn thousands of names.
Let's start with Guinevere. She is a cunning girl who does what she can with what she knows, but at the same time she is a very innocent girl when it comes to life in general. This is due to the whole mystery that surrounds her and the fact that she herself does not even remember her own past.
Also, we have Brangien, who is the lady of Guinevere. Although she seems talkative at first and somewhat irrelevant to history, in reality she is a great companion for the shy Guinevere.
Arturo, on the other hand, does not appear as much as I would have liked, but he is certainly charismatic and a character with whom Guinevere has an instant connection. Mordred, unlike the brilliant Arthur, is a reserved and distant character to others, he always keeps his distance and as you read you want to know more about him.
The end.
In short, there were several twists in the plot that I did not expect as I got closer and closer to the end. An ending that undoubtedly answered several of the questions that arose during the reading, but at the same time had several clichés that awaited me.
Final Opinion.
It is a story with a darker atmosphere than I originally thought, but a story that kept its pages glued due to the mystery surrounding the protagonist. If there is a second book in this saga, I would certainly read it, to answer all those questions that remained unsolved.
