Synopsis

Thou shalt kill.

A world with no hunger, no disease, no war, no misery. Humanity has conquered all those things, and has even conquered death. Now scythes are the only ones who can end life—and they are commanded to do so, in order to keep the size of the population under control.

Citra and Rowan are chosen to apprentice to a scythe—a role that neither wants. These teens must master the “art” of taking life, knowing that the consequence of failure could mean losing their own.

<<If they couldn’t find a way to trust each other, then what did have beyond a learner's permit to kill?>>

-Scythe, Neal Shusterman

Review

Scythe presents us a world that is governed by an artificial intelligence machine called the Thunderhead, a machine that governs everything and everyone except one thing. Death.

Because the world must preserve its balance, scythes are responsible for killing people. Its law is over everything, including the Thunderhead itself.

Rowan and Citra are chosen by scythe Faraday to become his apprentices, there is only one very important point. None of them wants to become a scythe.

Dystopian world.

From the beginning this world governed by the Thunderhead catches you, everything seems perfect, there are no illnesses, there is no violence, there is no poverty, there is nothing with which it seems that people can suffer. However, you soon realize what makes this world not so perfect.

<<Guilt is the idiot cousin of remorse>>

-Scythe, Neal Shusterman

History.

Although at first it only seems that the author of this book is only going to tell us how the training of Citra and Rowan is to become scythes plus some more, ultimately this is not so. There are so many twists to the plot that I certainly didn't expect, I screamed and screamed for how unexpected they were, and the more I dived into the book, the more I wanted to know how the story would end.

Characters.

Even though there are very interesting characters in the story, I would just like to talk about both protagonists, Citra and Rowan.

On the one hand we have Rowan, who seems to be a calm and relaxed boy, however he is very observer with deep thoughts that are not shown in his facial expressions.

On the contrary, we have Citra, who is impulsive and calculating, her impulses to act lead her to have various problems throughout history.

The relationship between both characters is an event that still leaves me confused about what to think, a relationship that was formed in a very strange way and that is deeper than I really came to understand, but that I know that somehow I believe it. A relationship without a doubt and interesting and that I would like to know more about.

<<But remember that good intentions pave many roads. Not all of them lead to hell.>>

-Scythe, Neal Shusterman

The end.

Without a doubt a surprising ending, a final that I could read and read for all the twists that Neal Shusterman presented to us and never tire of everything that happens.

Conclusion.

Scythe is a book without a hint of romance, Dreamers. A book that caught me from the beginning with this world so perfect and imperfect, a book with a thousand twists that surprised me and that I could never guess when they would appear. Definitely a book that I would read and not get tired of. A saga which I want to continue reading.
