Synopsis

Simon Snow is the worst Chosen One who's ever been chosen.

That's what his roommate, Baz, says. And Baz might be evil and a vampire and a complete git, but he's probably right.

Half the time, Simon can't even make his wand work, and the other half, he starts something on fire. His mentor's avoiding him, his girlfriend broke up with him, and there's a magic-eating monster running around, wearing Simon's face. Baz would be having a field day with all this, if he were here — it's their last year at the Watford School of Magicks, and Simon's infuriating nemesis didn't even bother to show up.

<<If you’re as good as your word, words should be enough.>>

Review

Simon is the greatest sorcerer in the wizarding world, the chosen one, the one who must defeat the greatest threat to magic itself, according to an old prophecy.

However, not everything happens as he thinks it will be his last year at Watford, his school of sorcery. He has problems with his girlfriend, his sworn arch-enemy does not show up for classes because he is planning something big (according to Simon), and his guardian ignores him to discover how to eliminate the great threat to the wizarding world.

History

Although at the beginning the story all I could think was how similar to Harry Potter this story was, but this isn’t like it. On the contrary, it is different from J.K. Rowling, in Carry On there are no made-up words, there are spells from rhymes, poems and even from pop culture.

From the beginning the mystery about the great threat that Simon has to face traps you between the pages of this book, because Simon and his friends have already had to face this being, they have had more adventures with creatures of this world and you want know more about them. It continues in a book where everything was flowing fast, I couldn't stop reading its pages because of everything that happens in the world of this book.

However, I feel like Rainbow Rowell left some loose ends, which certainly left me with unanswered questions at the end of this book.

<<I give them some my nothing… and then you give me more nothing>>

Characters

Rainbow Rowell tells this story from the different perspectives of the characters in this book, some of them doesn’t appear physically on the book. I would like to tell you about the main three.

Simon, our main character, is a boy who has been raised among the Normales, a boy who wants to become like the few other magicians he knows, with great expectations for his future, but with other expectations that falls on him for being the chosen one. A lonely boy, full of love and affection to give to all who appreciate, and certainly very impulsive when it comes to reacting.

Baz, the sworn arch-enemy of Simon, the cool character in this story. Baz is undoubtedly a character with deep thoughts, a character who captivates you from the first moment you reads him.

And Penny, Simon's best friend, the weird character in this story, a nerd who is not ashamed of being a nerd and a very strong personality. Without a doubt my favorite character, she is the one who guides Baz and Simon, and she is not afraid to scold them if necessary.

Even though I liked how the relationship of the three flows in the book, I had liked that Rainbow Rowell had delved more into the relationship between Baz and Simon, I feel it was too superficial.

<<... sometimes they just want to be filled.>>

-Carry On, Rainbow Rowell.

The end.

Somehow the ending was not a surprise.

This is due to all the data and clues that Rainbow gives us in the story, although it also took a turn that I did not expect.

An ending that left me feeling bittersweet.

Last Thoughts

A book that I would read again because of the way the story, mystery and suspense flows, and the relationship between all the characters in this story.
